Totnes town boasts many independent shops with cafes selling indulgent cakes & pastries. Market days are on Fridays and Saturdays and is the place to find bargain vintage items, delicious take-away food, beautiful hand-craft and interesting organic fashion. Buskers fill the air with music on most days but always on market days! Green living shops are Greenlife (health store), the Happy Apple supermarket (alternative open till 10pm), Green Fibres (organic, ethical, natural), Zero Waste Shop (organic, plant based)

Ashburton - Gateway to Dartmoor is a vibrant rural town with restaurants, pubs and cafes. It's a destination for antique hunters and boasts some interesting little craft shops.

Sharpham Estate overlooks the stunning River Dart with beautiful walks and a great outdoor cafe open in the summer when it has quite a buzz! Sharpham has a thousand year old farm which now produces fine organic wine and cheese - you can visit their small factory and also purchase delicious produce.

Dartington Hall Estate is an award-winning Devon destination! 1,200 acres offer woodland walks and riverside trails to cafes, restaurants and shops, art and craft activities, theatre, music and dance events as well as a Barn Cinema! Powderham Castle is the home of the Earl of Devon and has an exciting range of entertainment with pop-up restaurants as well as stunning grounds and gardens to visit.

Buckfast Abbey near Buckfastleigh forms part of an active Benedictine monastery, famous for its tonic wine since the 1920s! A beautifully peaceful place to worship or visit with lovely grounds, gardens, exhibitions, book and produce shops and a restaurant. buckfast.org.uk

Dartmoor National Park for the wilder side of Devon! Ponies roam its craggy landscape, defined by forests, rivers, wetlands and tors. Trails wind though valleys with ancient tombs, stone circles and abandoned medieval farmhouses. Dartmoor prison was used during the Napoleonic Wars and is an interesting visit.visitdartmoor.co.uk

The village of Chagford, near Dartmoor is charming and well worth a visit.

Beaches to visit - we're spoilt for choice in the South Hams and we can point you in the direction of one or two more secluded and quieter beaches as well when you're here!

Greenway House (Brixham) once the home of Agatha Christie is right on the river Dart and has beautiful grounds and fascinating interiors. Take a little boat from Dittisham over the river Dart to visit this National Trust House and make a day of it.nationaltrust.org.uk/greenway
